Uttar Pradesh towns sizzle

Lucknow, April 10 (IANS) With dry winds blowing across Uttar Pradesh, the state is set for hot summer ahead as major towns Lucknow and Allahabad recorded maximum temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius and 43.2 degrees Celsius in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning.
The Met office here said that in the coming days, the mercury would further rise, making it difficult for people to venture out in the day time.
The Met Office said gutsy warm winds laden with dust blew at a rate of 15 km per hour in and around Lucknow, thereby ushering in the 'loo' earlier than in past years. The lowest temperature also went up by a notch above at 19.7 degrees.
An official pointed out that the state was passing through a "dry weather" condition and the fury of the sun was only adding to the heat wave.
The Met Office however said that the weather would change "off and on" in the western parts of the state and slight drizzle would take place in some areas.
This would be accompanied by a spell of cool breeze, an official told IANS.
The day temperatures in major cities of the state however registered a rise. Kanpur recorded a temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius, Allahabad 43.2 degrees Celsius and Varanasi 42.5 degrees Celsius, were the hottest cities in the state.
